Ebadi, a distinguished lawyer, human rights activist and judge from Iran, now lives in asylum in London. She is the founder of The Center For Human Rights in Iran, a non profit organization that “promotes human rights, women rights, free and fair elections and due process of law. “ The center also campaigns against child execution in Iran. Ebadi and her organization use social media to promote their messages to the public. On youtube, instagram and facebook, the organization posts videos with dramatic footage of human rights abuses in Iran. By posting this imagery and videos Ebadi and the organization raise awareness of Iranian women’s plight.
In 2003, Ebadi became the first woman from the Islamic world to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, granted “for her efforts for democracy and human rights. She has focused especially on the struggle for the rights of women and children.”
