Intrepid Voices
Women Using Their Voices to Spread Awareness and Combat Modesty Policies and the Compulsory Hijab Laws in Iran
ABOUT
Our Vision
At Women Against The Regime, we aspire to create a platform that amplifies the voices of Iranian women, shedding light on their struggles and successes in the face of modesty policies and dressing restrictions. Through this website, we strive to educate and inspire individuals interested in understanding the intersection of dressing policies, social media, and activism in Iran. Your voice is powerful, and risky resistance takes extensive amounts of courage, confidence, and drive; these women are brave, powerful, and an inspiration to all. Our goal is to educate, spread awareness, and empower women by highlighting different voices of the resistance and uncovering the narratives of Iranian women challenging societal norms.
The Founder
My name is Reese Teramo! I’m a 16-year-old girl living in New York City and a student at Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School. I created this platform to highlight the incredible bravery of Iranian women resisting forced modesty laws and using their voices to spread awareness, protest against the Morality Police, and stand up for their natural human rights. Even though I live a very different life–free to express myself, pursue my education, and use my voice on social media with dramatically lower risk–I feel deeply connected to these women. We may be separated by borders and circumstances, but we share the same hopes for women all over: freedom, self-expression, and the right to be our authentic selves. I see these women as global role models. They inspire me to be courageous and conscious with the platform I have. This website is a small gesture – my effort to express solidarity with women and girls my age who are taking great risks for basic human rights and the liberty to choose what they wear on their own bodies.
